Before you book
What kinds of boats do you rent?
Tritoon pontoons for 11 to 15 guests and center console boats for up to 8. Every rental is self-drive and leaves from Punta Gorda.
I have never driven a boat. Can I still rent?
We ask that the person at the helm has some prior boating experience. If nobody in your group does, you can hire a licensed local captain. See the Hire A Captain page.
How old do I have to be?
The renter must be 21 or older and show a valid government photo ID at check-in.
Do I need a boating license?
Florida requires a Boating Safety Education ID for anyone born on or after January 1, 1988. You can take the FWC course online, or buy a temporary certificate after a short test.
I'm visiting from another state. Does my card count?
Yes. Florida accepts NASBLA-approved boater education cards from other states. Bring the card with you.
How far ahead should I book?
Weekends and holidays fill up early, so book a week or more ahead. Same-day rentals are possible with 3 hours' notice online or 2 hours by phone.
How do I book?
Use the Book Online page, call or text (941) 288-3785, or email rentals@boatrentpuntagorda.com.
What's included?
A full tank of fuel, Coast Guard required safety gear, life jackets in adult and child sizes, a Bimini top for shade, and a quick orientation before you leave.
Can we bring food and drinks?
Yes. Coolers, snacks and drinks are welcome. Please leave glass bottles at home and pack out your trash.
Where can we go?
Charlotte Harbor, the Peace and Myakka Rivers, Burnt Store, Placida, Boca Grande, Cayo Costa, Cabbage Key and north Pine Island. Offshore Gulf waters are off limits.
After you book
Where do we meet?
At a public boat ramp in Punta Gorda. We send the exact meeting spot and parking details with your confirmation.
When should we arrive?
Plan on 15 minutes before your start time for check-in, paperwork and the safety briefing.
What if something goes wrong on the water?
Call us right away at (941) 288-3785. Every boat carries towing coverage, and we will walk you through the next steps.
Payments & fees
Which payment methods do you take?
Major credit and debit cards. Cash is accepted at check-in with a card on file for the deposit.
Is there a security deposit?
Yes. A refundable hold of up to $600 is placed on your card and released after the boat comes back undamaged.
How does fuel work?
Boats leave with a full tank. When you return we top it off and charge only for the fuel you used, at the current marina price.
Is there sales tax?
Florida sales tax of 7% applies to rentals and add-ons.
Fishing & wildlife
Can we fish from the boats?
Absolutely. Rent our fishing package (3 rods, tackle box, live bait and nets) or bring your own gear.
Do we need a fishing license?
Yes, saltwater fishing in Florida requires a license unless you are exempt. Buy one in minutes on the FWC website.
What will we see out there?
Bottlenose dolphins, manatees in warm months, ospreys, pelicans, herons and roseate spoonbills along the mangroves.
